Virgin Hair Care & Coloring Guide — DreamAmoureHair

Washing & Conditioning

Always detangle the hair before washing using a wide-tooth comb or brush, starting from the ends and working your way up. Wash the hair with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and avoid over washing; once per week is recommended unless buildup requires more frequent cleansing. Apply conditioner from mid-length to ends and allow it to sit for several minutes to restore moisture. For best results, use professionally recommended shampoo and conditioner, such as Design Essentials for unprocessed hair or Pureology for color-treated hair.

Moisture & Hydration

Virgin hair does not receive natural oils from the scalp, so maintaining moisture is essential. Use lightweight oils and leave-in conditioners to keep the hair soft and hydrated. Deep conditioning regularly will help maintain shine, softness, and overall hair health. It is recommended to use professional-grade oils for optimal results, such as Design Essentials nourishing oils for natural hair or Pureology restorative oils for bleached or color-treated hair.

Styling & Heat

Always use a professionally recommended heat protectant, such as those from Pureology or Design Essentials, before applying heat. Limit excessive heat usage to prevent dryness, breakage, and split ends. Avoid heavy styling products that can cause buildup and weigh the hair down.

Daily Maintenance

Detangle the hair gently on a regular basis, starting from the ends and working upward. Avoid brushing or combing soaking wet hair, as it is more prone to breakage. At night, protect the hair with a satin or silk bonnet or pillowcase and keep it in a loose braid or ponytail to prevent tangling.

Drying & General Care

Allow the hair to air dry whenever possible. Gently pat dry with a towel and avoid rubbing or twisting the hair. Never sleep with wet hair, as this can lead to matting and tangling.

Recommended Products

For best results, we recommend using professionally recommended hair care products to maintain the quality and longevity of your hair:

  • For virgin (unprocessed) hair, moisturizing and strengthening products such as Design Essentials are ideal for maintaining softness, hydration, and overall hair health.

  • If the hair has been bleached or color-treated, high-quality salon products such as Pureology are recommended to help restore moisture, repair damage, and maintain the integrity of the hair.

Always use a heat protectant when styling, and pair shampoos, conditioners, and oils from the same professional-grade brand to maximize results.

Chemical Treatment & Coloring Disclaimer

Virgin hair can typically be lifted to a #27 (honey blonde) color. This level is ideal for natural tones and highlights. Please note that achieving vibrant or cool-toned colors such as blue, green, pink, or platinum blonde requires the hair to be lifted to a significantly lighter level. Lifting beyond a #27 may require multiple bleaching sessions and can compromise the integrity of the hair if not done properly. For best results, it is recommended to use a 20-volume developer and to have all coloring performed by a licensed professional stylist.

Results may vary depending on the desired color and processing method.

Longevity Tips

With proper care and maintenance, virgin hair can last for an extended period. Keeping the hair clean, moisturized, and gently handled will help maintain its softness, manageability, and luxurious appearance.

Improper maintenance or misuse of the hair may result in tangling, shedding, or reduced longevity.
